PSA's Watched in Class

My favorite PSA that we watched in class was the one with the withered flower that came back to life for the heart and stroke association. I loved the symbolism in it, and it worked really well, using a dead flower that comes back to life in place of a stroke victim who has been given medicine that allowed him/her to regain lost mental skills. The music sped up as well as the flower was coming back to life. I appreciated the simplicity and the little details of this PSA.

Blog Post A:

For my capstone project, I intend on raising awareness in new mothers about postpartum depression, and relieving some of the stigma associated with postpartum depression. This is an important topic because the care that a new mother can get if she is suffering from postpartum depression can severely impact not only hers, but also her baby’s overall, long term health. This project aligns with my career goals because I intend on becoming a psychiatrist, so I’d like to deal with mental disorders. This project impacts society because it targets the health of new mothers, who are arguably the backbone of society, and the health of their children. My project also aligns with the goals of Richland College, “Teaching, Learning, Sustainable Community Building,” because healthy mothers lead to healthy children who contribute to sustainable communities, and can become the learners and teachers of tomorrow.

Capstone Idea

For my capstone project, I plan on raising awareness for postpartum depression by creating a lesson plan for doctors and neonatal professionals to deliver to new mothers. This lesson plan will contain information regarding the prevalence, timeline, and treatment options for postpartum depression. I hope to help lift the stigma associated with postpartum depression. In IMED class I will need to create a poster and design the overall layout and cover of the lesson plan.

I like this yearbook cover because of how creative it is. I really like yearbook covers that mimic commonly seen products but put a yearbook twist on it. It's fun and innovative and highly customizable. It also provides a solid backbone that you can edit to fit your theme. I think that for my cover, I'm going to do a vintage looking satire as well.

Vintage Yearbook Theme

I believe that vintage is anything that is from a distinctive, past time period, from the '90's and back.I think that the best time period for our yearbook cover would be the early 1960's because of the versatility. It incorporates the whole psychedelic hippie movement, the mod movement, and remnants of the distinctive aesthetics of the 1950's.
Here are some examples of things that I'd consider to fit the 1960's era of vintage:
Cars: The Volkswagen fits the 1960's in terms of cars. Image source: http://www.glogster.com/gelby/mood-board-1960-s/g-6n59jv2pvd6u99vi0g5nua0
